Old soldiers never die, they simply take their leave. Our beloved father, husband, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to all, Karl Henry Meyer, passed away peacefully at the age of 92, on June 10, 2014, surrounded by his wife and family. Karl was born to Louis Henry Meyer and Mildred Elizabeth Dunning on September 8, 1921, in Buffalo, New York. He was brother to John (Dorothe Mai), Katherine L. (Samuel Hawthorn), Naomi K. (Joseph Ruhland), and Everett T. (Violet Marie Machin). Karl married Izola DeFee on May 3rd, 1947; she passed away December 26, 2004. He married Christel Erika Wheeler on September 8, 2010, Karl's 89th birthday. A new life a new love. Karl served faithfully during World War II and Korea, and gave 27 years service before he retired. He flew 110 missions as navigator. During one mission, the aircraft crashed, and Karl heroically saved the pilot by pulling him from the burning wreckage. He spent 22 years at Bolling Air Force Base in Washington D.C. Karl received a 65-year pin for his membership in the Highland Ely Parker Lodge No. 835 in Buffalo New York. He was a member for 70 years. Karl was known for his twinkling smile and his generosity, whether it was to fix up and give a bike to a child who couldn't afford one, or to share what he had with others. He was a good man, a great husband, and a doting father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Nothing brought Karl more joy than being with his family and loving them. He had a heart of gold and a strong desire to give service to others. Karl was baptized a member of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints at the age of 91 years young. He was looking forward to going to the Temple. Karl is survived by his cherished wife, Christel, who he loved with all his heart. They were married over 3 wonderful years, and he will surely be missed by her.
