Katherine Emily Bates

Katherine (Kay) Emily Bates, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend passed away on November 12, 2018 in West Jordan, Utah at the age of 78. Kay was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Andrew John Poshek and Katherine Shirley McCallum. She is the oldest of three children; siblings John and Carol. She graduated from Patrick Henry High School. Kay was the daughter of Polish parents who were very industrious and hard working. This was the foundation for Kay's life. Kay married David Harold Tessman June 27, 1959. They had two daughters, Kristine Marie and Jennifer Kay. In 1974 she and her family joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints while living in Minnesota, an event that changed their lives for the better. Kay was a very faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her religion and her faith in God were extremely precious to her. She held numerous church callings and loved to serve others. Education was very important to Kay. After raising her daughters she finished her education with at BA in social work. She worked for many years as a social worker in the state of Florida. Kay had a keen and curious mind and love for local, state and national events. She loved to watch, read and talk about political issues and candidates. She loved anything CNN! Family was the center of Kay's life. She was happiest around her family, looked forward to visits from her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Kay loved the scriptures and as her eyesight started to fail she didn't let that stop her, she just bought larger scriptures with large print. Kay was blessed with two wonderful children, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Kristine Marie Wilson (David) and children Ashley and David. Jennifer Kay Boshard (Ron) and children Sheraden Poore (John), Bailey, Brooke and Colin. And great-grandchildren Johnnie and Harlie Poore. Services will be Saturday, November 17, 2018 with a viewing at 1:00 p.m. and a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home in Taylorsville, Utah.
