Kathlea Astrid Kilgore Quebbeman passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 13, 2021. She was 72 years old and was most recently a resident of Erda, Utah. She was being treated at St. Mark’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, but despite everyone's best efforts she was unable to overcome a Covid-19 infection.
Kathlea was born on Friday, August 13, 1948, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Her parents were Clair Alfred Kilgore and Ruth Axia Lindgren Kilgore. During her childhood, the family moved around the country many times as Clair worked on audits for different companies.
Kathlea was highly educated and received an undergraduate degree from the University of Denver before she was married. Kathlea married David James Quebbeman and took his last name on July 15, 1972.
After her sons entered college, she pursued a master's degree from the University of Utah. She finished the degree partially to fulfill the last request of her husband to “Keep going.” She studied Computer Science and Math.
Kathlea held several positions throughout her career. Originally, she worked as a computer programmer at a time when programming was done with punch cards. She then became a house spouse until her sons had both started college. Finally, she taught computer science at the Salt Lake Community College part-time for a few years before retiring.
In her spare time Kathlea spent a great deal of time reading novels, knitting, and crocheting. She also continued to learn history and politics. Her reading recliner was always open to all the family cats and she enjoyed taking care of many cats and kittens throughout her life.
Kathlea followed the teachings of Jesus Christ as a member of the Lutheran church her whole life.
Kathlea is survived by her sons James Martin Quebbeman and Thomas Rody Quebbeman; along with her daughter-in-law Jennifer Lynn Quebbeman; and granddaughter Astrid who live in Erda, Utah. She was predeceased by her spouse David, who left us on August 10, 2008.
Kathlea’s memorial service is private due to Covid-19 restrictions. She will be interred at Valley View Memorial next to her late husband. Text 323-963-3453 for more information.
We encourage those wishing to support the family to give a donation to Kathlea’s favorite charity, Mercury One. https://donate.mercuryone.org/
