Kathleen Barton Orton was born on May 8, 1939, in Cedar City, Utah. She grew up in the small town of Paragonah and later went to Parowan High School, where she met the love of her life, Roy Orton. They were married in the St. George Temple on March 30, 1957. She passed away peacefully on January 23, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones.

Kathy was an award winning, talented beautician and later became a dedicated daycare owner. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings, including Guide Patrol, Cub Scouts, Relief Society, and Young Women’s organizations. She was also a camp director for over 35 years, dedicating her time to enriching the lives of others through service. Kathy loved celebrating all holidays. At Christmas time, her yard was LOADED with Christmas lights and decorations. Halloween was another favorite of hers, and she dressed up every year for the family party. She always remembered to "kick" our Valentines. She enjoyed bowling, camping, and had an amazing arm with incredible accuracy! She was also a Utah Jazz season ticket holder for 33 years. She spent many years providing childcare in her home, nurturing and caring for countless children who brought her immense joy.
Kathleen is survived by her children: Lawana Sisam (Lorrin), Vince Orton, Teresa Smith (Dale), and Troy Orton (Shalome). She was a proud grandmother to 18 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren. Her family brought her boundless pride and happiness.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Oscar LeRoy Orton, and caring daughter-in-law, Kit Orton.
Kathy will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for her family. She was a very persistent and headstrong person, touching the lives of everyone she met. Her legacy of compassion and generosity lives on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A viewing will be held on Friday, January 31, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at McDougal Funeral Homes, located at 4330 South Redwood Road.
A graveside service will follow on Saturday, February 1, at 12:00 PM at Valley View Memorial Park, located at 4400 West 4100 South.
This will be followed by a celebration of life at the Stake Center, located at 3175 South 3450 West. Please wear your Jazz gear and colors to honor Kathy's love for the Utah Jazz
