Kathy Jean Hansen Festin 1945-2023
Our dear mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend, Kathy Festin, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2023. She was born April 8, 1945, the youngest of three girls, to Edwin Don and Lucille Kerksiek Hansen. She was raised in the Sugarhouse area of Salt Lake City and attended Highland High School, where she graduated in 1963.
She married Michael Dan Festin on May 13, 1966, in the Salt Lake Temple. They had two sons, Scott and John. They later divorced.
Finding herself as the family breadwinner, she went to work for IHC (later Intermountain Healthcare), where she worked for 22 years, retiring in 2008. She first worked in the blood bank at LDS Hospital and later as an Administrative Assistant for IHC Laboratory Services. She loved the people she worked with and for but was extremely disappointed with the new Intermountain Health logo.
A lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kathy served in many callings throughout the years in Primary, Young Women, Relief Society, and as an ordinance worker at the Jordan River Temple. She served two missions, as the Mission Secretary in the Italy Milan Mission (2009-10) and as a service missionary in the Welfare Services office (2011-12). She also volunteered as a host at the Conference Center and in the surgery waiting room at Intermountain Medical Center.
She is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Judy. She is survived by her sister Sue (Roger) Ladle, her sons, Scott (Wendy) Festin and John (Heidi) Festin, four grandchildren, Zachary (Malibu) Festin, Spencer (Jessica) Festin, Allyson (Noah) Kjar, Brittany (Thomas) Payne, and five great-grandchildren, Grey, Attlas, Jett, Atticus, and Stanley.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Legacy House Assisted Living in South Jordan for their tender care for the past few months.
