Kathy Ann Patterson Plant, loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother passed away peacefully on August 19, 2022. She is finally free from the mental and physical ravages of early onset Alzheimer's disease.
Kathy was born August 4, 1949, in Price, UT, and grew up in Farmington, NM and Salt Lake City, UT, where she graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1967.
Kathy was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all of her life, and faithfully fulfilled callings in Young Women, Relief Society and Sunday School. She also served a full-time, French-speaking mission in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Kathy married Walter Robert Plant on May 7, 1978 in the Salt Lake City Temple. The greatest joy in her life was giving birth to and raising two sons, Porter Robert Plant, and Walter Pace Plant, whom she adored.
Kathy loved people, especially babies and little children. They were drawn to her as well, and were very receptive to her loving personality. She was very creative and skilled in many crafts: tole painting, sewing, crocheting, miniature hanging quilts, embroidery, and ceramics were just a few. Kathy had a great vocabulary and excelled at writing. She had a keen wit, an awesome sense of humor, and an appreciation of good puns, even when she could not communicate well. She loved puzzles, music, and theater. She was quite entrepreneurial. She owned several businesses including a wicker furniture and basket business, and later a commercial embroidery business. Kathy also taught tole painting classes and sold kits.
Kathy loved to travel and enjoyed being with friends and family.
A few of her favorite things were oatmeal, Mexican food, any kind of chocolate, and Diet Coke (even until her final days).
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Ellsworth Patterson and Thurza Brown Patterson, her younger brother Kenneth Ellsworth Patterson, and her oldest sister, Darlene Patterson Johnson.
She is survived by her husband Walter (Walt) Plant, her sons Porter Robert Plant (Ashley Land) and W. Pace Plant (Jennifer Phillips), grandchildren Hayden Bradley Phillips, Ellinor Starr Plant, Indiana Ruby Plant, Kennedy Michelle Plant, Jude Michael Plant, Wild Robert Plant, Lake Plant, and Weslie Grey Plant, as well as her sisters, Sherry Gott, Debra (Dennis) Stewart, Michele McLeod (John VanDeKamp), and her brother Patrick (Shelly) Patterson, and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Canyon Hospice for their kindness and care, Cottonwood Family Clinic, and her special friends: Christine Smith, Diane Johnson, Amber Thomas, and Jan Morrison. Kathy was supported by many family members, especially Sherry Gott, who served as Kathy's primary caregiver before Walt's retirement.
