Kenneth Stone We Will Miss You Dad Kenneth Darwin Stone born January 26, 1954 to Gordon Barth and Marilyn Morrill Stone died June 23, 2013. Ken was diagnosed with cancer on May 25 and passed away one month later of complications following kidney surgery. He grew up in the Taylorsville - Bennion area, attending Cottonwood and Kearns high schools. He attended Utah State University prior to serving his mission and Brigham Young University after his mission. He served his mission in the Ireland mission 1973 through 1975. While serving in Ireland he met his sweetheart, Suzie, who was serving her mission at the same time. Three months after he returned home from Ireland, Ken and Suzie were married for time and all eternity in the Los Angeles temple. Ken and Suzie celebrated their 38th anniversary on June 21 in St. George Utah. Ken is the father of eight children: Emily, Jeff, Brad, Juliana, Ryan, BJ, Jesse and Marc. His children meant everything and were the source of his greatest and happiness. He dedicated his life to serving his wife and children. Even after he was diagnosed with M.S. following Jeff's birth, he worked hard in the banking and mortgage industry to provide for his family. He coached his children in baseball, basketball and football. Coaching 7 children in sports was A LOT of coaching! He truly could state with the Apostle John, I have no greater joy that to hear that my children walk in truth . He was patient with his children in their mistakes but his desire for his children to walk in truth never diminished. Ken served well in the church and his testimony only grew stronger as time went on. The last callings that he magnified were as a co-primary teacher with his eternal companion preparing the children in his class for baptism and as a nursery teacher. He attended each one of his primary children s baptisms. He used to calm and entertain the children with his wheelchair tricks and loved being with his classes. The Sunday before his surgery he was with his nursery class. Anyone who knew Ken knew that he loved cooking for people and was a master with the BBQ. He loved to smoke meats, particularly ribs. One year he made and gave a rack of smoked ribs wrapped in a bow to his co-workers for their Christmas gifts. Ken bled blue. He was fully invested in all things BYU. A month ago he was at Cougar day in St. George taking pictures with all the athletes. He knew every stat for basketball players from Danny Ainge to Jimmer. He WAS Jimmermania. Despite his dislike for the Sacramento Kings, he still recorded and watched every game because Jimmer was on the team. Ken will be most remembered for being very calm, quiet, patient and spiritual. He made such a good father and coach because of his calmness and kindness. Everyone loved Ken. He will be missed by all who knew him and he will miss you all, especially his 14 and one half grandchildren. We are sure that Ken will still be watching over his family and cheering from above for all of us in whatever we do that is good.
