Kenshi Fukawa

August 19, 1931 — November 26, 2018

Kenshi Fukawa passed away peacefully on November 26, 2018, at the age of 87. He was born in San Lorenzo, CA to Masao and Sen Fukawa. At the age of 10, he and his parents were interned at Topaz, Utah, until their release four years later. Ken proudly served in the Korean War as an Army truck driver to the front lines. He began his 20 year career at Singer sewing machine company as a repairman and ended as manager of several Singer store locations. He continued working jobs he enjoyed until retiring at the age of 70. He was actively involved at the Taylorsville Senior Center and helped with the opening in 2002. He and Lucille, his (now deceased) wife, were honored as Grand Marshall(s) in the lead float of a Taylorsville Dayzz Parade and their pictures hang in tribute at Taylorsville City Hall. Ken cherished trips with his beloved wife of 40 years along with fishing, golfing, bowling and billiards. His love, sense of humor and friendliness will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

The family would like to thank the management and staff of Olympus Ranch in Murray, UT, for welcoming Ken into their community. Thank you also to A Plus hospice for their specialized and dedicated attention to Ken’s care (with special gratitude and appreciation to Jo. You were his favorite! Additional thanks to hospice nurse, Heidi, and the rest of his hospice team).

Survived by his children Debra (Robert) Baty of Taylorsville, Russ Fukawa of West Valley City, Kelle (Ron) Valentine of Ogden, Paul (Roxann) Shafto of Taylorsville, Russel (Sheri) Shafto of Robertson, WY, and Sandra Shafto (Jeff McClure) of Houston, TX; seventeen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Lucille Caudron Fukawa; and son Robert Miles Shafto.

Ken and Lucille (who served in the Navy) will be interred together at Camp Williams. An open house celebration of his life will be held Wednesday, December 12, 2018, at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 Redwood Road, Taylorsville, UT, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a charity of your choice in memory of Ken Fukawa.
