With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Konisitenitaini "Koni" Finau, a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, who left us on July 19, 2024, at the age of 67. Koni's passing is a profound loss to all who knew him, but his legacy of passion, dedication, and love will forever remain in our hearts.
Koni was a man of many talents and even greater enthusiasm. His love for sports, particularly rugby, was unmatched. From his early days on the field, Koni's rugby skills were celebrated by many, earning him a reputation as one of the most sought-after players on many local circuits. His commitment to the game was evident in every match he played, and his sportsmanship and teamwork were hallmarks of his character.
Beyond the rugby field, Koni was a devoted family man. He cherished his wife, Telesia Vaenuku Finau, with whom he shared 33 years of love, respect, commitment, and companionship. Koni & Telesia were married on May 3, 1991, in Millbrae, California then were sealed for all time and eternity in the Oakland Temple on July 17, 1992.
Koni was a proud father to their beautiful daughter, Mounukiuoleva Audrianna Finau, and proud papa to his grandson Kingston Isileli Finau. Koni's dedication to his family was evident in every aspect of his life. He was a guiding light and a source of unwavering support, always putting his loved ones' well-being and concern before his.
Koni's professional life was marked by dedication and hard work. He devoted many years of service to Costco, where he was known for his reliability and commitment. Additionally, Koni engaged in various forms of hard labor for different companies, always approaching each task with a work ethic that inspired those around him.
Koni's warmth, kindness, and generosity touched many lives. His presence brought joy and his spirit of camaraderie made every gathering brighter. He had an uncanny ability to make friends wherever he went, and his legacy will be remembered through the countless lives he impacted.
Koni was a person whose natural musical talents shone brightly in both his guitar playing and singing. With a guitar in hand, Koni could transform any space into a lively, engaging performance area. His strumming and fingerpicking were marked by a fluidity and precision that spoke of years of dedicated practice, but also of an innate musicality that seemed almost effortless. His ability to evoke a wide range of emotions through his guitar playing made each performance uniquely captivating.
Koni's vocal abilities complemented his guitar skills perfectly. His voice was rich and versatile, with a warm, resonant tone that could fill a room or soothe a quiet gathering. Whether singing a classical Tongan hymn, a heartfelt love song, or a line from a song on the radio, Koni's voice had a way of connecting with listeners on a profound level.
In every note he played and every song he sang, Koni left a lasting impression of his extraordinary musical gift, one that will be cherished and remembered by all who had the privilege of experiencing it.
Koni is survived by his loving wife and eternal companion Telesia , his cherished daughter Mounu, and apple-of-his-eye grandson Kingston along with a wide circle of friends and extended family who will miss him dearly.
Koni was preceded in death by his father Ioane Lolohea Finau, mother Melemoti Finau, sister Latu Vava'u Finau Le'atoa and most recently, younger brother Sione Funaki Finau.
Funeral services for Koni will be held on Monday, July 29, 2024, at 10am at the Midvale 14th Ward located at 87 East 7100 South, Midvale, Utah. On Wednesday, July 31, 2024, Koni's Interment will take place at 10am at Redwood Memorial Estates located at 6500 South Redwood Road, Salt Lake City, Utah.
