Laverne Larson Johnson, 86, passed away Saturday, October 20, 2018. Laverne lived a long life filled with service and love for her family, friends and church. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah on April 7, 1932 to Carl Wilford Larson and Bessie Laverne Winegar Larson. She grew up in the Marmalade District west of the Capital and graduated from West High School. She loved her big family of 12 brothers and sisters. She married Stanley Clawson Johnson in the Salt Lake Temple on December 14, 1951. Mom is an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has served in many positions. She served two missions with her husband. They served in the Sacramento California Mission, in the Toronto Canada Temple Mission, and served for many years in the Jordan River Temple. She loved to share her stories about the missions they served in . Laverne had many talents. She sewed beautiful clothes for her children and grandchildren. In her later years, she began making quilts and made over 100 quilts she gave to family and friends. One of her biggest accomplishments that she worked tirelessly on was to make a quilt for every one of her 39 grandchildren, which they received at their wedding. She also painted, made the best floral arrangements and wedding flowers and designed and built a family float for the 24th of July parade in Las Vegas, NV. She was a stay at home mother and successfully raised 8 children. Laverne was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Clawson Johnson; two son-in-laws, JD and Ranel; grandchild Kimball; and great-grandchild, Avery; brothers David, Jerry (Evelyn) and Donavan (Golda); sisters Eileen (Dirk), Gustie (Rex), and Rosemary. Survived by her children: Kathleen (Ranel), Susan (Terry), Marianne, Kevin (Tina), Lisa (JD), Kimberly (Howard), Jennifer (Sid) and Christopher (Kristen); 39 grandchildren; and 70 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 26th, 11:00 a.m., at Taylorsville Gardne 1st Ward Chapel, 4252 South Bennion Road, Taylorsville. Viewings will be held Thursday, Oct. 25th, from 6-8:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road and at the church prior to services on Friday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Interment, Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E Dimple Dell Road 10600 S.
