Lawrence Kranwinkle was born June 6, 1947, to Leonard Kranwinkle and Elizabeth Banks Petersen. He died July 31, 2024, surrounded by his family, very suddenly, of complications from double pneumonia.
Larry was a lifetime member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served an honorable mission to the Southern States Mission, was an assistant ward clerk for many years, and served as an ordinance worker in the Jordan River Temple -- a calling he loved more than anything he had ever done, and grieved being released from to his dying day.
Larry served in the United States Army, active duty, for three years, and then the Army Reserves until his retirement from his service to our country. This year he was honored to go on an Honor Flight with Jonathan (his son) to see the Washington DC memorials. That was one of the highlights of his life.
He married the love of his life, Ann Marie Ashby, October 16, 1970, in the Salt Lake Temple. Finding they were unable to have children on their own, they adopted Jonathan Marc, James Michael, Jennifer Marie, and Jessica Marie - a blessing he was always grateful for.
After being released from active duty in the army he went to work for the Veterans Administration hospital with many different job titles. He loved his work there most especially at four in the morning pushing snow and seeing wildlife. He retired with honors on May 3, 2012.
One of Larry's favorite things to do was plan and take his family on vacations, mostly to our National Parks, State Parks, and historical sites. He loved to travel and camp. The family had many enjoyable experiences on their vacations. He developed a fondness for cruising and was looking forward to the next one next April, but he will have to be there in spirit only.
After retiring he became an avid reader. Jonathan introduced him to an author named Clive Cussler and he spent many enjoyable hours in the exciting adventures the author created.
He loved watching game shows, especially when they involved trivia. He and his sister Karren used to have contests about who could answer more questions on Jeopardy. He also loved word search books and could be found with one almost daily, even when camping.
He is survived by his wife Ann Marie, four children: Jonathan Marc (Melissa), James Michael, Jennifer Marie, and Jessica Marie, four grandchildren: Michael (Abi), Gabriel (Lindsay), Hunter, and Ivy (the light of his life), his brother Lyman, and sister-in-law Sandy. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Karren, brother-in-law Joseph, brother David, sister-in-law Vicki, three nephews, and a niece.
