Lee Andrew Childress 1939 ~ 2012 Beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, friend, Lee Childress, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, May 12, 2012. Lee inspired those who knew him with his integrity, work ethic and personality. He never met a stranger, as all would become a friend or an acquaintance. Lee was born April 3, 1939 in Marvel, Arkansas, the oldest of 10 children. At the age of 18, he went to serve his country and joined the Army, honorably discharged, then proceeded to 4 years of college. In the early 70's, because of his love of compassionate service, Lee decided to volunteer for the Red Cross in Kansas City, MO, where he was always willing to help where needed. In the late 70's Lee finally met the love of his life, Jeanne, both wanting to celebrate New Year s Eve by getting married on December 31, 1981. He was employed by Saint Regis Paper Company, which became known as Stone Container, transferring him to Salt Lake in 1987, where they found the perfect home which provided the beautiful view of the mountains. After 30 years with Stone, Lee retired, but quickly decided he wasn t ready yet, moving on to Larry Miller as a salesman, to UTA, where he started as a bus driver, ending with a promotion to buyer, to contract buyer. UTA provided an atmosphere of contentment. He loved his job, and the many friendships he made throughout the company. Jeanne loved listening to countless compliments of Lee being the perfect gentleman, or how respected he was. He took pride in his achievements and what he felt was a successful career, and again, his time to retire, which was just recent, in March 2012 at the age of 72. He was ready to golf, and travel with his wife, visiting the countless friends across the states. Lee loved their Wendover trips, and yearly visits to Kansas City to see family, or the car shows to see the new version of Cadillacs, as the one he owned sat perfectly washed and waxed in his garage. Lee was a faithful member of the South Side Christian Church of Utah, being in charge of Benevolence, his dedication to the members he loved so dearly. Each and every one was cherished in a special way. To hear Lee speak about his faith was mesmerizing, packed with the emotion of his love for the Lord, and the Bible. Lee is survived by his lovely wife, Jeanne, 3 children from a previous marriage; 2 brothers, 6 sisters; many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the employees of Standard Optical on Highland Drive, Salt Lake Police, ambulance, and efforts of IMC for their help.
