Lenore Mitchell Cannone Hendricks 1924 ~ 2012 Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and friend, Lenore Mitchell Hendricks, age 87, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 after heroically battling colon and ovarian cancer. Born May 30, 1924 in Roosevelt, Utah, the oldest of 5 children born to Gordon Y. Mitchell and Katie McKowen. She moved to Orem in her early teens, where she graduated from Lincoln High School. She later followed her two brothers into the Navy, where she served in the Radio Shack in San Francisco, California as Seaman 1st Class during World War II. She loved her Navy years and was proud to serve in the Military. She met John Richard Jack Cannone in the Navy and was married for 5 years. They later divorced. They lived in Long Beach, California, together they had 1 son, Douglas Gordon Cannone. She then moved to Salt Lake City where she met Eldon Hendricks. They married in 1962 and later were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. They settled down in Salt Lake where she was blessed at age 42 with another son, Shem Hendricks. She was an active member of the LDS Church. She held many church callings in scouting and primary. She also served two LDS Spanish genealogy extraction missions. She worked at Creases, Wilburg Grocery Store, BYU Press, Sears, and retired after 20 years from the Granite School District. She loved country line dancing and square dancing. In retirement, she worked as a Grandma at the Salt Lake County Daycare Center until age 84, when she was finally encouraged to stop driving. She will be remembered for her love of children, her outgoing personality, kind generosity, her great sense of humor, and her love of music. She loved to knit, crochet, read, dance and cook. She also spent many selfless hours helping others by making clothing, blankets, hats, dance uniforms, food and anything that was needed to help those in need. When anyone visited her home, she made sure they didn t leave hungry. Her love of gardening, flowers, camping, dancing and books of all kinds were second only to spending time with her family. Survived by her son, Shem Hendricks; 6 grandchildren, Michele, Jason, Tori, Shari, Laci, Jordan; 4 great-grandchildren; sisters, Helen Mecham, Clarice (Gene) Lloyd; sister-in-laws, Thelma Mitchell and Florence Mitchell. Preceded in death by her parents; son, Douglas; brothers, Warren and Albert; brother-in-laws, Darrell Haws and Merrill Mecham. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all the doctors, nurses, CNAs, family and friends and Hospice care who helped take care of Mom with the most tender care and love. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 15, 2012, 12:00 noon at the Bluffdale 3rd Ward, 2700 West 14400 South. Viewings will be Monday, from 6-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road and Tuesday at the church from 11-11:45 a.m. Interment, Orem City Cemetery.
