Leo E. Harwood, age 91, passed away on September 15, 2015, to join his sweet wife, Beth, after too many years apart. He was born on November 6, 1923, to Ernest William and Maude Wetzel Harwood of Salt Lake City where he grew up catching bugs, fish, and living each day discovering God's creatures. He graduated from South High School. He married his little red-headed sweetheart, Beth Reynolds, on August 7, 1943, at the Hyrum J. Jensen home in Salt Lake City. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. He served in the Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1943. He was a meticulously accurate brick mason and worked hard to support his family. He caught more than his fair share of fish, loved hunting and golfing, and spent as much time out of doors as possible. He raised tropical fish and tied flies. He enjoyed a good book and loved old western movies and popcorn. He loved musicespecially when his sister, Carol, sang. He was known for his love of gardening and watching things grow. Numerous flats of flowers and vegetables were shared with everyone, along with delicious garden produce. He had a dry sense of humor and loved a good story. He was generous to a fault, shared his home and love with many. He quietly gave to others in need. He especially loved the little children and would glow when they visited. He hugged tightly and did not let go easily. He had many physical challenges to deal with, but met them without complaint. He wore his recliner chairs out sufficiently and then for good measure, added another ten years to their longevity. Leo is survived by his sons Dee (Nancy) Harwood and Chris (Marsha) Harwood; daughters Kathy (Vergil) Young, and Becky (Robert) Olsen; sister, Carol (Bill) Brimley; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beth Reynolds Harwood; his parents, Ernest and Maude Harwood; his daughter, Judy (Wayne) McAllister; and his siblings, Luella McLarren, Naomi Potter, Joyce Child and Gary Harwood. The family wish to extend their sincere gratitude for the many loving hearts and helping hands that have sustained Mom and Dad over the past years. Special thanks is extended to kind health-care workers who assisted him with daily needs. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 23, 2015, at 12:00 noon at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, where a viewing will be held prior to services, from 10:30-11:30.
