Lloyd Morris Barker

November 3, 1925 — May 6, 2016

Lloyd Morris Barker returned to his Heavenly Father On May 6, 2016 and joined his eternal sweetheart in time for Mother's Day. He was a beloved Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather. He was born at home in Cache Junction, Cache County, Utah on November 3, 1925. He was the son of Stephen Waldo Barker and Hazel Velate Larson Barker. He was raised in Cache Valley, graduating from North Cache High and then Utah State with an Engineering degree. His parents owned a barber and beauty shop in Smithfield. He spent his adult life in the Granger, Taylorsville, West Valley area. He was serving in WWII in the Army Air Corp training to be a pilot when the war ended. He served a mission in the Central States that was cut short because of medical issues. He married his sweetheart Bonnie Lou Jessop, daughter of Roy & Jane Jessop of Millville Utah, on February 12, 1947, in the Logan Temple. They were blessed with 5 children. Lloyd worked in many occupations including as a barber, accountant, cabinet maker, aircraft mechanic, real estate agent and carpenter. He enjoyed teaching at McCammon High, Evergreen Jr. High and Cyprus High School Aeronautics, Math, Algebra, Physics, Drafting, Electronics, Circuit Design, woodwork, metal work, and farm mechanics. He taught the electrical apprentice program, physics and math at Salt Lake Trade Tech (SLCC). He went on to work as an Electrical and Mechanical Engineer for Anaconda, Scintrex, Kennecott, EDO Western, Chicago Bridge and Iron, Sperry, and Hercules. He was proud of the fact that he was able to save these companies millions of dollars with his inventions and experience. One of which was developing an ocean drill that extended what was then only 400 feet down to 23,000 feet. Lloyd served in many LDS callings including many years as a Seventy. He worked with the scouts and young men and served as High Priest Assistant and Group Leader. He served as a membership clerk under two Bishops and served several years as temple worker at the Salt Lake and Jordan River Temples. He loved the Lord and serving him and he was a great example of Christ like love to all he met. Lloyd was a problem solver and always was looking for something he could fix or change. His hobby was hard work. He passed this attribute onto his family. He built his home on Millerama Avenue in only one summer with just the help of one friend and his 13 year old son Brad. He designed the home and did nearly all the work on it. He remodeled it many times over the years doing most of the work himself. He became a BYU football fan at 65 and enjoyed attending games for the next 8 years. He was able to go on the Honor Flight back to the WWII memorials with his son Brad. Lloyd suffered with many health issues over the years and was a great example of enduring to the end. He lived alone and took care of himself until the last 17 months. He spent 2015 at the VA Veterans home and we express our love and appreciation to their caring staff. There he enjoyed playing BINGO, going on excursionsfishing, lunches, temple outings and even horseback riding. He spent the last 5 months at Sagewood Assisted Living in South Jordan and we are grateful to all of those wonderful people there for their tender care of him as well as his Comfort Worx Hospice nurse Debi. Lloyd is preceded in death by his wife Bonnie; brother Darwin; and grandson Lance Lloyd Burton. He is survived by his 5 children and their spouses, Brad (Joan) Barker, Sherry (Ralph) Burton, Vickie (Ray) Jaquier, Cindy (Willard) Pratt, and Chris (Lyndie) Barker; 20 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; brother Ronald (Gerrie) Barker; and his sister Leone (Leon) White. Quote from Lloyd: The thing I lacked most was health, but the LORD made it up to me with the loving family he gave me. Lloyd's greatest joy was his family. He was very proud of each and every one and often bragged about them.
