Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and loving friend to many, passed away on December 20, 2017. Born Vivian Lorraine Depew on October 1, 1934 in Sneedville, Hancock Co., Tennessee to parents Roy Chester Depew and Malissie Lusinda Seal. She was the last of their 10 children born, the last of her siblings still living, and the last of her in-laws on both sides to return to Heavenly Father. Lorraine, aka "Rene" started out her life in Sneedville, Tennessee, then moved and grew up in Laplata, Maryland and went to school there, and for a short spell lived and went to school in Indiana. At the age of 16, she met and married, her soldier sweetheart, Arvil D. Carter, who was stationed in Maryland and who preceded her in death on December 12, 1996. After their marriage in 1951, and at the ending of the Korean War, they moved back to Arvil's home state of Utah where they raised their family in Provo, Springville, and Kearns. Rene and Arvil had 9 children together, and were sealed for all eternity on November 9, 1996. Rene had many talents, and her greatest joys were her family. She loved to crotchet, and sew. She made many clothes for her children and for her many dolls. She enjoyed life and wanted to keep on living. She loved working on genealogy and going to the LDS Temples and writing poetry. She wrote many poems through the years and taught some of her children to write also. She was always the homemaker and had a great knowledge of the Gospel of Jesus Christ; a staunch convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since 1952. Her love of reading about gospel principles never ended. She was a mother always, a great teacher, a scriptorian, and a loving friend. She was the first in our hearts and truly loved by many. She is survived by her children Mick Carter, Linda (Gary) Takis, Donna (Robert) Homer, Donald Carter, Jean (Bill Moss) Thompson, Lusinda Carter, Edde Carter, and Sharon Hicks; 43 grandchildren; and 73 great-grandchildren as near as we can count! She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; siblings; daughter Karen Sanders McDonald; grandchildren: Aaron L. Steffensen, Amber D. Homer, Jeanie L. Siddoway, and Leisa C. Thompson. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 29, 2017, 11:00 a.m., at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South, Redwood Road, where viewings will be held Thursday, December 28th, 6-8:00 p.m. and prior to services on Friday from 10-10:45 a.m. Interment, Provo City Cemetery, 610 S State Street, Provo, UT.
