Loyal W. Flynn, age 84, passed away Sunday morning, November 6, 2016. Dad was born May 12, 1932 in Salt Lake City to Joseph P. Flynn and Mary Viola Williams. He was the fifth of 10 children. Dad served in the National Guard and when his unit was called up during the Korean War Conflict he graduated high school early and served for a total of four years including service in the Army Corps of Engineers. Shortly after returning home he then served an LDS mission to the British Isles where he first met our mother in Wigan, England when he and his companion took over the area mom and her companion had been serving in. Dad talked fondly of his mission experiences in Belfast, Ireland and England. He and his companions were often recognized at zone conferences for having held the highest number of street meetings and placing the most Books of Mormon. Dad's commitment to the study of the gospel was lifelong and many have benefitted from him sharing his deep love for and knowledge of the gospel with them. Dad married Edith Calderwood in the Salt Lake Temple on December 28, 1956. They had three children, Shannon (Robyn), Erin Fletcher and Calene Hacking (deceased), six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He and mom faithfully served as ordinance workers in the Jordan River Temple every Tuesday and Thursday night from the time it opened in 1981 for almost 30 years. Dad had three priorities in life: the gospel, his family, and work. Dad owned his own concrete construction business for most of his adult life and never did retire. For the last 20 years he owned and operated Riteway U-Cart Concrete in Tooele. His legacy has set a solid foundation for his family that will last through the eternities. We wish to thank the staff at the Salt Lake Veterans Home and Brighton Hospice for their tender care of our father.
