Luana Hughes

Luana Marie Newman Hughes passed away on Friday, November 15, 2024, at the age of 92. She was born November 4, 1932, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Francis and Drusilla Brown Newman. She was married January 27, 1953, to Harold LaMarr Hughes in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

 She served in many callings and leadership positions in her LDS wards throughout her life, including ward choir director. Luana retired from the University of Utah after 33 years of service. She earned a bachelor's degree in history from the University of Utah and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies. Genealogy and family history work were important to Luana.

 Luana was also an avid gardener and reader. She enjoyed traveling with her family and partaking in cultural experiences.

 Luana is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband LaMarr, daughter Lani, and son Steven. Survived by Janeen and Glen Ward, Robert and Bernice Hughes, Marie and Dean Larsen, 8 grandchildren. and many great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 22, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the McDougal Funeral Home Chapel, 4330 S Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah. Family and friends may visit Thursday, November 21, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and Friday at 10:00 a.m. at McDougal Funeral Home.
