Lyle Ralph Deppe, 74, passed away September 14, 2022, at his home in Taylorsville, Utah. He was born September 2, 1948, to Ralph Stacey and Lola Winward Deppe in Salt Lake City, Utah. He attended Webster Elementary School, Bryant Jr. High and graduated from East High School in 1967.
He proudly attended the old Salt Lake 10th Ward building on the corner of 8th East and 4th South in Salt Lake City, Utah. He loved that building, especially the stained glassed windows and balcony at the back of the Chapel.
He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the Northern States Mission which included parts of Illinois and Iowa. He remained friends with his mission companion Wayne Goates all of his life and spoke of him fondly. They served together for a whole year in the mission field.
He attended Ricks College and later Weber State College, where he met Jeryl Ann Widdison. They were married October 15, 1971, in the Salt Lake Temple. They resided in Clearfield, West Jordan and Taylorsville, Utah.
They spent 50 years together, celebrating their Golden Wedding Anniversary with their whole family at Avalon Care Center, where Lyle was being cared for.
He was an active member of the Harvestland Ward where he served many years securing the building every night with his sons. He also served as his wife’s “extra” counselor, in the past, helping her with many various callings. He was her right-hand man. He loved reading the Book of Mormon, Church and American history books. He enjoyed watching old movies, going on rides, and visiting with people wherever he went. He retired from Kennecott Corporation after 28 years.
He adored his family and especially his grandchildren. Lyle and Jeryl Ann were blessed with 4 children: Mark Lyle Deppe (Stephanie), Springfield, MO., Julie Ann (Erich) Fleischel, West Valley City, UT, Russell Wayne Deppe and David Francis Deppe, Taylorsville, Utah.
He is survived by 7 grand-children, Zachery, Andrew, Cason, Tanner and Gavin Fleischel, Colton, and Alaina Deppe. He enjoyed reading to them and teasing them. He dearly enjoyed being around them.
He loved his siblings: LaRue {deceased} (Jerry) Nelson, Bard, California; Mariella (Sterling) Potter, Price Utah; Bonnie (Val) Smith, Star Valley Ranch, WY; Ronald (Pam) Deppe, Cottonwood Heights, Utah; Scott (Sherrie) Deppe, Sandy, Utah; Leland (Teresa) Deppe, Sandy, Utah.
Preceded in death by his parents – Ralph and Lola Deppe; in-laws – Francis and Jewel Widdison; sister LaRue Nelson; brother-in-law – Max R. Lewis and a stillborn son – Lynn Mark Deppe.
We would like to thank his loving family for the daily care given to Lyle during the past 8 ½ months that he has been bedridden at home from the effects of Dementia. We also appreciated the angels from Suncrest Hospice for their excellent care & service. We thank the many loving friends, neighbors and relatives for visits, texts, meals, cards, prayers, blessings, treats, service, encouragement and simply being there for his family. You have each been our special Angels and are loved dearly. Lyle…may the Lord’s loving arms keep you safe until we are together again. (Keep wiggling those toes please.)
