Lyle Don Michaelis, our father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend passed away on September 15, 2016 at the age of 90. We are grateful that he was able to once again be united with his wife Zelle after five years of separation. Lyle was born on April 25, 1926 in Smithfield Utah. He was the second of five sons born to Harry and Lena Michaelis. Lyle spent a good part of his youth working with his dad in a mill and delivering the feed from the mill. Lyle was introduced to basketball when he was eight years old and enjoyed playing and watching the game throughout his life, especially playing on the North Cache High School team. In addition to basketball, Lyle enjoyed being with his family and friends, playing golf, being outdoors and traveling with Zelle. He graduated from North Cache High School in 1944 and immediately joined the Navy where he served until the end of WWII. Lyle married Zelle Erickson, who he loved from their first date, in the Logan Temple on June 6, 1950. They spent 61 loving years together raising their five children, traveling and enjoying their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lyle graduated from Cal Poly in Mechanical Engineering and spent his career working as a Mechanical Engineer in California, Colorado, Utah, Virginia and then back to Utah where he retired from Hercules in 1989. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed serving the Lord, especially with his wife Zelle when they served three missions in Europe and as hosts at the Conference Center. Lyle was a great example and left loving memories for his family and friends. He is survived by his children, Jim (Venice) Michaelis, Jayne (Tom) Mackay, Craig (Cheryl) Michaelis, Garth (Beth) Michaelis and Karl (Tammera) Michaelis; 22 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren and his four brothers Gene, Clint, Odel and Kent. He was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Lena; his wife Zelle; and his great-grandson Maximus.
