Lynda Carole McLain Woodbury After a short illness, Lynda Carole McLain Woodbury passed away peacefully August 7, 2011, surrounded by loved ones. She was born October 29, 1942 in Fork Polk, Louisiana to Carlos and Denzel Smith McLain, the first of six daughters, and was raised in Greene County, Mississippi. She earned Bachelors and Masters Degrees of Education from Brigham Young University and a Masters Degree of Special Education from UCONN. She married Grant Woodbury June 13, 1966 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. After teaching several years in Salt Lake City, Carole and Grant moved to Connecticut where they spent their remaining years. They were actively involved in Revolutionary War re-enactments, with Carole cooking and Grant black smithing. Her career centered on teaching students with challenges. She spent countless hours of her own time and means helping special needs children, and later became a national presenter and consultant. Upon retirement, she continued working in Pahrump, Nevada and most recently Mesa, Arizona. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, influencing many with her example and testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Even after all her health adversities, Carole frequently commented, I am so blessed; the Lord is so good to me! Carole was preceded in death by her husband, Grant; and father, Carlos. Surviving are her mother, Denzel, Lehi, UT; 5 sisters: Gayle (LeRoy) Thompson, Chatom, AL; Brenda (Chad) Andra, Corvallis, MT; Gwen (Tom) Chapo, Kennewick, WA; Judy Hess, Pocatello, ID; and Marsha McLain, Barnwell, SC; 18 nieces and nephews; numerous grand nieces and nephews; and countless students and life-long friends, all who adore her. Her family expresses their heartfelt thanks to Carole s exceptional caretakers at Wasatch Care Center for their compassionate love and service to Carole. You went above and beyond the normal limits of patient care. She loves you. At her request, graveside services will be held Wednesday, August 10, 2011, 3:00 p.m. at the Taylorsville Cemetery, 4500 South Redwood Road. Typical of Carole s character, her instructions were, Just put me in the ground, bury me, and go have a party . In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Special Olympics or Ducks Unlimited.
