Lynda Mitchell

Lynda Lee Wasmer Mitchell 1942 -2023

Lynda Lee (Wasmer) Mitchell, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, passed peacefully on Feb. 9th at home, surrounded by love and her family.

Lynda was born on December 12th, 1942, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Orem Lester and Ramona (Barber) Wasmer. The first of three children and the only daughter, Lynda grew up in Tooele and Hunter, and later moved to West Valley City (formerly Granger). She attended Granger High School, where she met lifelong friends and her eternal companion, Jack Deloy Mitchell, whom she later married in the Salt Lake City Temple on August 20, 1965. They were blessed with three wonderful children: Warren, Shauna (Mike) Lynn, and Brenda (Mike) Dixon, and later gained two sons-in-law whom she loved as if they were her own.

In her early years, Lynda had a love for horses, sports, being outdoors, and Elvis; later her family became her true love. She was blessed with eight grandchildren: Sierra (Payton) Richards, Colton Mitchell, Jacolin "Jackie" Mitchell, Chelsie Lynn, Mikenzie Lynn, Landon Dixon, Ellie Dixon, and Carson Dixon, and three great-grandchildren: Haven Richards, Kylo Richards, and Noah McDaniel. She loved and adored each and every one of them. Spending time with her family was Lynda's favorite thing to do, and her family brought her so much joy and happiness.

Lynda was beautiful, fun, loving, compassionate, giving, and had great empathy for others. She was a great listener and always had a way of making you feel better. She loved getting together with friends and family and enjoyed having parties. She loved decorating for parties and holidays and always had the most beautiful Christmas trees. She had a quick wit with a laugh that lit up the room and loved pulling practical jokes or pranks, but when a game of Rook was being played, she became intensely competitive.

Lynda had a lifelong battle with multiple health issues beginning with a diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis in her late teens and later with heart disease and then cancer, which ultimately took her from her family. She faced all her trials with courage and grace. She always had a positive outlook and never complained and was a tremendous influence and example to her family and all that knew her.

Lynda was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many capacities and callings over the years as her health would allow, and was an enormous support to her husband while he served as bishop. She loved the Gospel and was a shining example of faith, devotion, and Christ-like love. She was happiest when she was in the service of her family and others.

Preceded in death by her parents, brother (David), extended family, and some very dear friends. She is survived by her husband, brother Brent (Sandy) Wasmer, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Our family would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to the entire team at Bristol Home Health and Hospice, and especially to Natalie, who lovingly helped take care of our mother.
