Lynn Leroy Bateman, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, mentor, and friend, passed away surrounded by his family on Monday March 9, 2015. Lynn was born November 3, 1931 in Tooele, Utah, to Lela Elizabeth Daly and Alden Leroy Bateman. He grew up in Salt Lake City and attended Granite High School, where he was an active member of the swim team. Lynn served as a missionary in the LDS Southern States Mission. Upon his return, he married his sweetheart Diane Inkley on February 19, 1953 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They began their life in California where Lynn served in the army. When they returned to Utah, Lynn began his career as a master electrician, owning his own business for over 50 years. In tribute to their love story, Lynn and Diane started a family, which grew into a posterity of 11 children, 54 grandchildren, and 36 great-grandchildren. To add to the love they had as a family, their home was always open, whether it was a foster child, the missionaries, or just a friend in need. Lynn and Diane were true examples of unconditional love. Lynn loved to read, teach, and speak. He filled this world with joy, using his artful ability to story tell. He had the gift of making people laugh, cry, and most of all feel loved for who they are. He was blessed with a giving heart, and was always in service to everyone around him. He lived a full life, collecting stories everywhere he went. He loved meeting people and would do anything he could think of to uplift and make them smile. He had a passion for making sure people were taken care of. You could always count on Dad to be there. He lived to celebrate his family. He saw the greatness in others and helped them see it in themselves. Those who met Lynn for the first time walked away from him feeling loved and appreciated. Dad's greatest joy was time spent with family. It didn't matter if it was a trip to Grover, Lake Powell, a BYU football game, or just simply a gathering on the front porch. As long as his family was there, he was happy. Dad loved the Gospel and shared his testimony of the savior in various church callings, including: Bishop, Scouting and Youth Leader, Teacher at the Prison, and Temple Worker at the Jordan River Temple. Lynn was the ultimate father figure to many. He used his gifts to inspire them to live life to the fullest, always in the light of our Savior. His legacy will live on forever in the memories he made with his family and friends. Survived by: 6 sons and 5 daughters, Kevin (Denise), Kenneth, Kelly (Lisa), Kody (Jodi), Jeff (Andrea), Carl (Miranda), Kim, Kay (Bob Hanson), Michelle, Karen Murphy, Kami (Brent) Barbour, his grand children and his great-grand children.
