Margene Lucile Bailey Giles, our beautiful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother,
aunt, and friend, left this mortal life on October 29, 2023, surrounded by her daughters and many loved ones. We are confident that the reunion through the veil was a joyous one, where she was greeted by loved ones and angels that went before. They have been waiting and anticipating the moment to receive one of her famous hugs, the hugs that felt like she was hugging your whole soul.
She was born on March 5, 1934 in Ephraim, Utah to William Lee Bailey and Mary Lucile Jewkes. She graduated from Snow College High and attended Steven Henegers, where she received a degree in general accounting. She worked in accounting at multiple companies until she retired at age 83. YES! We said 83. After she retired, she helped babysit her granddaughter Maggie, her little best friend. Maggie needed her, and she needed Maggie. They were inseparable.
She married and was sealed to William (Bill) Chidester Giles in the Salt Lake Temple on May 12, 1977. She was the most incredible mother to her daughters Janet, JoAnn, Bobbie, and Mary, as well as her stepdaughters Valarie and Linda. They were her everything, her world!
Margene's example of love and support was unmatched. She made all who crossed her path feel loved, special, and important.
Margene was a talented seamstress. She sewed her daughters' clothes, helping them mix and match patterns to create the perfect dress. She even sewed three of her daughters' wedding dresses. She also enjoyed crocheting and made many crochet dish towels, dolls, and what we call the "poopy duck" filled with black licorice-flavored jelly beans. She loved putting together puzzles and would have puzzle contests with her girls, even allowing them to win on occasion. Margene was a poker slot machine master. She would play poker on New Year's with her grandson and son-in-law and could definitely hold her own in a poker game. She was the biggest Utah Jazz fan. She knew when the games were on, who the players were, and would wear her Jazz gear to cheer them on! Margene loved to travel in her motor home, listening to Kenny Rogers and Jim Reeves, whether it was taking her many Canada trips, camping up Ephraim Canyon, or attending soccer tournaments to watch her grandchildren play. She also loved watching game shows and "Little House on the Prairie."
Margene lived a life full of love and grace even while enduring extreme heartbreak. The main being the loss of her daughter JoAnn. Oh, what a longing embrace that will be. Margene is a breast cancer survivor three times over. She was an absolute beacon of strength to us all. An angel in this earthly realm and now an angel in the heavens watching over us!
We will miss you so much! Always remember, "MOM...We love you more!"
She is survived by her daughters Janet (Randal) Ostler, Bobbie (Jon) Gehrke, Mary (Chris) Schumann, Valarie (Rodger) McIff, Son in law, DeeJay Bawden, 55 grandchildren, 79 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband and parents, sister Koleen (Boyd) Madsen, brothers Leedale (Colleen) Bailey, LaMar (Audrey) Bailey, Reid (Beth) (Carolyn) Bailey, Que (Nona) (Martha) Bailey, daughter JoAnn Lucile Bawden, stepdaughter Linda Marie Freemen and stepson William H. Giles, 2 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
