Margitta Christel Marta Duckwitz Lehman eagerly awaited the day she would once again be in the arms of her beloved Harold August Lehman. On February 8, 2025, a beautiful sunny, snowy day, she left this world, surrounded by her loving family, to be reunited with her husband.
Born in Stettin, Germany, on December 24th, 1938, Margitta's early life was marked by the hardships of WWII, and she often shared vivid, heartfelt stories of that time. At 18, she immigrated with her mother Marta and younger brother Norbert to Salt Lake City, Utah.
A blind date set up by a friend changed her life forever; just two weeks after the date, Harold proposed. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1959. Together, they built a life full of happiness, memories, and love. Margitta worked at ZCMI, which was later taken over by Macy's, where she and her family loved shopping and using her discount together for many years.
Margitta's passions were many and filled her with joy. Her greatest joy was being a mother and grandmother. She treasured family, friends, and animals and had a love for travel, flowers, snow, and classical music. Cooking and chocolate brought her happiness, and anytime you asked how she was doing, she would reply that she was "peachy with a pit in the middle." She adored movies, musicals, parades, and family holidays and always urging others to "macht schnell (hurry up)!" when someone was lagging behind, even when running late herself. She also enjoyed the outdoors, swimming, boating, and yard work.
A devoted member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Margitta held numerous callings throughout her life and loved to sing, particularly her favorite hymn, There is Sunshine in My Soul.
In her final months, Margitta was lovingly cared for by her daughter Lynette and granddaughter Jessika, which was a blessing to all who were involved.
She is survived by her sister, Angelika; her brother, Norbert; her four children, Michelle (Wade), Steven (Pam), Lynette, and Christine (Dave); five grandchildren, Holly (Brock), Kylee (Alyssa), Alexa (Isaac), Jessika, and Michael; three great-grandchildren, Taylor, Landon, and Eloise; four beloved cats, Harold, Avalanche, Echo, and Koa; and a very large dog, Mishka.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Marta Bauer; her father, Heinz Duckwitz; her cherished aunt, Anni Schulz; her soulmate, Harold; and many beloved animals.
We are deeply grateful to Inspiration Home Health and Hospice, and especially to her nurse, Coli, and CNA, Nora, who cared for her with the love and tenderness of family.
This isn't a goodbye, rather, a see you later. "Schlaft schön. Träume süße von sauren Gurken". Sleep well. Sweet dreams of sour pickles.
