With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Marie Weston. She passed away peacefully on Friday, May 17, 2024.
Marie was born on May 24, 1942, in Cardston, Alberta. As the eldest of nine children, she developed a nurturing spirit early on, helping to care for her siblings. She had a gentle soul, characterized by a soft spirit, kind nature, and easygoing attitude, complemented by a fun and mischievous sense of humor.
On July 9, 1964, she married Dennis Weston in the Cardston Alberta Temple. They lived in Salt Lake City, where they started their own family and built their life together. Family was everything to Marie, and this became the hallmark of her life. Despite the distance from her family in Canada, Marie prioritized frequent visits, ensuring strong bonds with each of her siblings despite the many miles and years that separated them. Each reunion was a joyous occasion and Marie always came bearing presents for her family.
Marie had a remarkable gift for bringing people together. She delighted in organizing gatherings where friends and family could celebrate, share meals, and enjoy each other's company. Marie was the glue that held her family together, the heart and soul of every gathering. Her greatest joy was unconditionally loving and serving others, cherishing the moments they spent together. This devotion remained steadfast until her very last breath. She readily embraced opportunities to care for others, whether it meant preparing a meal for someone in need, caring for a child, or lending a hand when work needed to be done, often performing these acts of kindness quietly, without seeking recognition. Her priority was ensuring that people felt loved. Her kind heart left a lasting impact on everyone she encountered.
Marie was a woman of many talents. She painted, crafted, baked, gardened, and sewed. She had a passion for compiling family stories and memories. Deeply rooted in family traditions, she sought to ensure they were carried on. She had 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy. While she was a wonderful mother, she truly shined as a grandmother. Her home was a haven filled with art and craft projects, delicious treats, outdoor adventures, picnics, and card games. Marie had a unique ability to make each grandchild feel loved and special, often baking personalized birthday cakes with a lucky quarter hidden inside. Even in her later years, she made it a priority to send her grandkids homemade Valentine's and Christmas cards, ensuring they always felt remembered.
Marie endured a long battle with Parkinson's disease for nearly half of her life with remarkable grace. Despite her significant health struggles, she always appeared with a smile, choosing to focus on others rather than her own discomfort. Marie was greatly admired by all who knew her.
Marie is survived by her devoted husband Dennis and their children Brian (Karen), LeAnn (Chris), Michelle (Jody), and Jenn (Kent). The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all the caregivers at Sagewood and Canyon Hospice for their gentle care and compassion. Marie's legacy of love, kindness, and family devotion will forever be remembered and cherished by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
