Marilyn Glines Short

October 18, 1933 — December 1, 2017

Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend Marilyn Glines Short, died peacefully in her sleep on the morning of Friday December 1, 2017. Born on October 18, 1933, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Glenn Lynn and Erma Glines. Graduated from South High School. Married Leroy L. Short on November 7, 1952 in the Salt Lake Temple; later divorced. Marilyn was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many positions. She especially enjoyed serving as Primary President and in the Cub Scouts. Marilyn attended the University of Utah where she obtained a degree in Nutrition, a personal goal that she had for many years. She worked for the Salt Lake City School District, supervising the lunch programs in many schools. She was an excellent cook and loved having the family over for Sunday dinner. In her later years, Marilyn enjoyed doing ceramics at the South Jordan Senior center and won prizes at the State Fair for her entries. She and a dear friend, Jennifer, spent countless hours constructing elaborate jigsaw puzzles to frame and give to family and friends. Marilyn is survived by her sons Michael (Pauline), Larry (Jackie), David (Shelly ); son-in-law Robert Hoyt; brother David Glines; and sister-in- law Shirley Glines; 8 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents; infant son Gary Lynn Short; daughter Diane Hoyt; brother Donald Glines; sister-in-law Dovie Glines; daughter-in-law Carol Short; and grandson Christopher Hoyt. The Family would like to thank Alta Ridge Assisted Living for their friendships, kindness and tender care. Funeral services to be held on Friday, December 8th, 11:00 a.m. at the Indian Ridge LDS Ward, 9636 South, 1700 East, Sandy, Utah. Viewings will be held Thursday, December 7th, 6-8:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road and again Friday prior to services at the church from 10-10:45 a.m. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.
