Marilyn Larsen

Marilyn Joy Hanes Larsen, 89, of Salt Lake City, Utah, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, on February 22, 2024, at Copper Ridge Care Center in West Jordan, Utah.

She was born on May 26, 1934, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Gordon and Ruth Hanes. She was a graduate from West High School. She was married in the Salt Lake Temple to her sweetheart, Allen LaVell Larsen (Buddy), on November 16, 1955, they were married for over 66 years. She was known for her hard work, dedication to her husband and family, and her kindness to everyone she met.

Buddy and Marilyn went on to have six children, 27 grandchildren and 63 great-grandchildren. They also had the opportunity to foster a Navajo student, Daryl, for a few years. She was known for her crocheting skills and had a knack for creating hot pads and afghans, which she lovingly made for her family. She always made an effort to ask each of her grandchildren for their favorite colors and dedicated herself to matching those colors in her creations. She always enjoyed baking and having treats for when her family came and visited. She cherished spending time with her family and found great joy in lengthy phone conversations with her loved ones.

She is survived by her daughter Diane (Michael Bench) and her sons Randy (Cammi), Barry (Tamra), Tad, Brent (Marilyn) and Rick (Karen). She is also survived by her 27 grandchildren and their spouses and 60 great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all that knew and loved her.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Buddy Larsen, her dear sister Helen Murtha and her loving parents, along with three of her precious great-grand babies.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with viewings on Wednesday. February 28 between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. and February 29 at 10:00-10:45 a.m. Services will be held at McDougal Funeral Home, located at 4330 S. Redwood Rd, Taylorsville, Utah. The Interment will be directly following the service at Taylorsville Cemetery, located at 4575 S Redwood Rd, Taylorsville, Utah.
