Marilyn passed away peacefully on Thursday January 24th at the age of 88. She was preceded in death by her sweetheart Brent of 51 years. She and Chick are now making up for lost time.
Marilyn loved to garden and always had beautiful flowers throughout her yard. From her childhood home in the Avenues to her long term residence in West Valley City, her gardens were the envy of many.
She was herself a beauty who was often dressed to the nines. From her jewelry to her shoes, matching purse, hat, scarf and gloves were pure Marilyn. She had a special affinity for anything that had a little fur.
Marilyn cared for her family generously including cousins and even kids from our neighborhood. This spoke to her true character. One memory that we are fond of is when she took on ironing all of the clothes in the neighborhood. Our entire house was “decorated” with clothes hanging from every door frame.
Once her girls got into their teenage years, she held various positions at the family owned Delton Lanes. Anyone who met her enjoyed excellent service in the Lounge and her stories from behind the bar were legendary. Her regulars will tell you about her keen wit often matched by her strong demeanor.
Marilyn enjoyed many friendships in her life and always spoke highly of others. She was a good listener who carried a warm smile and joyous laugh. We will miss the sparkle in her eyes.
Marilyn is survived by her daughters Terri (Jerry) Worthen and Kelli (John) Stevens and grandchildren Nataly (Jason) Meyer, Patrick and Jack Stevens. She loved her grandchildren and they loved her back.
Funeral services will be held at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 S Redwood Rd on Monday, January 28th at 12:00 noon, where a gathering will be held prior to services from 11-11:45 AM. Interment, at Valley View Memorial Park. A celebration of life will follow at Delton Lanes from 2:30 to 5PM.
In her later years, Marilyn suffered mercilessly from the effects of Dementia, so if you feel inclined, please make donations to Alzheimer’s Research Foundation in her memory.
Our family would like to give special thanks to the loving care she received throughout her later years. She had some very special neighbors that looked out for her. The Abbington and the staff, especially Fernanda and her hospice nurse, Caitlyn, provided exceptional care and compassion.
