Marilyn Harris Standing our Mother, Grandmother, Great grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend passed away July 10, 2021.
Marilyn Harris Standing was born on September 17, 1929, to Reuel Smith Harris and Alma Harker Harris in Springville, Utah. She had a wonderful young life near her grandfather’s dairy farm. At 10 years old Marilyn’s family moved to Salt Lake City where she met her new neighbor and future husband Don Standing.
She grew up and graduated from West High School and later graduated from Stevens Henegar College. She married Donald Standing on February 18, 1949, her husband of 71 years. They had 3 children, Shauna Standing Trimm; Wayne Harris Standing; and Douglas Roy Standing.
Marilyn developed a strong work ethic from a very young age. The last 30 years of her work life was spent with Travelers Insurance Company before she retired. Her father taught her a love of gardening. Most of her life she grew large vegetable gardens. She would spend hours canning everything she grew. She knew the value of “dirt therapy.”
Many life ling friendships were also cultivated. Through 20 years of bowling, lunch groups, daughters of the Utah Pioneers, and her fun Red Hatters group, and beloved neighbors. Nothing made her happier than spending time with her children, grandchildren, and the neighbor kids. They all had a special place in her heart.
She has been an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While doing her service work, she developed a special love for her young boys Sunday School class, which she taught for 15 years. Marilyn was a devoted wife and mother, and we are forever grateful for her example of pure love and friendship.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Standing; Son, Doug Standing; brothers, Reed, Boyde, and Mark Harris. She is survived by her brother, Gary (Jo) Harris.
The family of Marilyn would like to express our gratitude for the love and care of the Horizon Hospice team, Dr. Anderson; Jo; Brenda; Heidi; and especially Donna whom mother so loved.
