Marion Olsen

March 6, 1943 — March 7, 2023

Marion Irene Olsen, 80, passed away on March 7, 2023, at home, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born March 6, 1943, in Bergen, Norway, the daughter of Magdalon and Inga Ingebrigtsen, she came with her family to the United States in October of 1949, settling in Utah following World War II.

After graduating high school in Salt Lake City, she traveled to Norway and while visiting her grandparents where she met a missionary serving in her hometown of Bergen. Two years later he returned home and Hans and Marion were married June 11, 1963 in the Salt Lake City Temple. Together they settled and raised their family in West Valley City, Utah.

A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, she was faithful in many callings within the Relief Society and Youth Organizations. She was an example to her family and friends with her love of the Savior.

Marion was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who loved spending time with family. She had a passion for Christmas like no other. Every year she would set up multiple trees and her vast collection of Christmas decorations. She and dad worked together to create new additions each year, with dad cutting the wood and mom painting the designs. Her collection of reindeer will be shared and treasured among family members, knowing they were created together with love by mom and dad.

To say Marion loved to travel would be an understatement!! She worked in the travel industry as a travel agent for many years. She planned family trips all over that led us around the United States and to her home country of Norway. She and dad also traveled many places with friends, cruising to multiple places - having more fun than they should have!

Marion is survived by her children, Robyn (Randall) Furlow- daughter, Stephanie Olsen - daughter, Becky Pirillo - daughter, Kenny (Jodi) Olsen - son.

She is survived also by her 6 grandchildren.

Marion was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Hans, Kari (infant daughter), Christina (infant daughter) and her parents, Magdalon & Inga Ingebrigtsen.

We as her children would like to express our appreciation to her friends the "Cruise Girls". Since dad's passing the "Cruise Girls" were there filling her life with laughter and love. She loved the monthly card games (although Phase 10 was not her strongest game), book club (where she would say they discussed the book for the first 15 minutes, then spent the rest of the time getting caught up with all that was going on in their lives), and all the lunch outings to just get out of the house! Cruise Ladies- know that She LOVED you!! Thank you for being there for her and for loving us too!

Thank you for the loving care given by Alissa and Archie. Your being there helped us care for her at home and we appreciate the "extra" support you provided!

Funeral services will be Monday, March 13 at 12:00 p.m. at the Jordan North 6th Ward, 3836 West 4100 South, West Valley City, Utah. A viewing will be held Sunday evening, March 12 from 6-8 p.m. at the McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah, and Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the church prior to the funeral services.
