"His Sweetheart" Marjorie Black Smith, 89, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 6, 2014. She was born August 22, 1925 in Twin Falls, Idaho, daughter of Henry Jay and Elizabeth Lydia Webb Black. Marjorie was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In her youth she served in the North Central States Mission. Upon her return, she married the love of her life, Samuel Whitaker Smith, December 8, 1948 in the Salt Lake Temple; he preceded her in death June 26, 2001. Her life was spent raising and nurturing their eight children and serving faithfully in all her church callings. She welcomed each of her 48 grandchildren and 91 great grandchildren into the world with joy. "Grandma's House" was the heart of our family. Being an exquisite seamstress, Marjorie created many beautiful things for her home and family. When her children were grown, Marjorie served another mission to Jamaica with her sweetheart, Samuel. Having a passion for family history, she researched and wrote many family histories. She got a kick out of watching "Studio C", enjoyed listening to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and was an avid reader of history and religious books. Marjorie had a deep and abiding love for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her testimony and commitment to live the gospel of Jesus Christ was evident in the way she lived her life and taught her children, as well as others within the sphere of her influence.
