Mark LaVar Sonny Schoenfeld, Jr. Drag Racing Legend Sonny, age 87, peacefully passed away from natural causes at home on December 12, 2012 to rejoin his loving wife, Dolores. Born September 6, 1925 in Salt Lake City to Mark LaVar Schoenfeld, Sr. And Myra Holm Schoenfeld. He married Dolores May Brock on May 21, 1947 in the Salt Lake Temple. Sonny was devoted to his wife, Dolores, and family inspiring in them a love of life, commitment for excellence, motivation to succeed and a passion for competition (drag racing). Known primarily within Intermountain West drag racing circles, he is also identified in and a part of the NHRA museum in Pomona, CA. He is survived by children, Wayne (Marsha) Schoenfeld, Linda (Kent) Dabell, Sandra Schoenfeld-Stearman, Debora Stapley, Steve (Annie) Schoenfeld, Liesa Burdett and Matt (MarDee) Schoenfeld; 40 grandchildren, 81 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. We express special thanks to our sister, Debora, for all the help she provided dad this past seven years and we wish to extend our sincere gratitude to Affinity Hospice and especially Barbara and Cathy for their friendship and kindness. Funeral services will be Monday, December 17, 11:00 a.m. at the Granger Stake Center, 2850 West 3835 South, West Valley City. Family and friends may visit Sunday, 6-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road and Monday at the Church one hour prior to the service. Interment, Valley View Memorial Park.
