Marlene Boyer

May 9, 1942 — May 19, 2024

Marlene Lila Holladay Boyer

Our dearly loved daughter, sister, spouse, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend passed away in her home on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at 7:45 pm.

Our mother, Marlene, was surrounded by the love of family and friends on Sunday. As her time was drawing close, her tiny body was held by her children as a silent prayer was made asking Heavenly Father to help her transition to the other side. As the prayer concluded, she peacefully took her last breath and passed with our Savior's love and guidance to the other side. Our mother was greeted with a joyous reunion of the people she loved most dearly here on earth. Her mother Lila; her daughter Stacie; her great-grandma Margaret; her nephew Robbie; her spouse Gary; and many, many other loved ones.

Marlene was born to Paul Smith Jensen and Lila Lucille Luker on May 9, 1942, in Salt Lake City, UT. She grew up in Sugar House and graduated from Highland High School. She remained close to friendships (Ginger, Carolyn and Lynn) that were formed in childhood and endured the remainder of her life.

Marlene was married to Larry Kent Holladay on August 6, 1961. She and Larry had five children. Due to circumstances beyond either person's control, their marriage was dissolved in 1974.

Marlene was left with 5 young children to provide for in the early 70's as a divorcee. Our mother, with her mother's help, was able to buy a home for us to live in and provide all the necessities needed for our family to survive. Our mother returned to school at Trade Tech in Taylorsville in the mid-seventies and earned certificates in accounting, shorthand, and other clerical skills. She was hired by the State of Utah Department of Workforce Services in 1978 and worked there until her retirement in June of 2002. She made a very special friend, Deb Servis, while employed with the State of Utah. She and Debbie remained friends long after both retired and saw each other frequently up to our mother's passing yesterday.

Marlene married the love of her life, Gary Thomas Boyer, on April 21, 2000, after dating for 14 years. They both very much loved animals, particularly dogs, and had a very special companion named Max for many years. They enjoyed the outdoors, hiking and camping with their friends Ginger and Palle, traveling, and supporting the U of U football program.

Marlene was a very talented artist and extremely creative. Her yard was the most beautiful yard in the neighborhood and something she thoroughly enjoyed working in.

Marlene was very determined and a hard worker that never gave up. If she couldn't figure a way to do something she wouldn't give up until she found another solution.

Marlene was an amazing grandmother. There are so many wonderful memories of family functions with the grandkids and great grandkids over a span of 38 years.

Marlene is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Lila Jensen, her nephew, Robert Smith Jensen, her daughter Stacie Holladay Mansfield, and her spouse, Gary Thomas Boyer who passed away one week before her on Mother's Day, May 12th.

Marlene is survived by her four children, Scott Holladay, Susan Holladay, Stephanie Merrill, and Shawn Holladay. She has 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

We would like to express extra gratitude to our brother Shawn who cared for our mother night and day until the end. He was a loyal son who loved our mother dearly.

A joint Celebration of Life is scheduled for Saturday, June 1, 2024 at the McDougal Event Center, 4306 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah, from 10 am - 12 pm. Interment for both our mother Marlene and our father Gary will take place at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park and Mortuary in Millcreek following their Celebration of Life.
