Mary Lou Metcalfe

July 18, 1923 — April 10, 2019

Mary Lou Skinner Metcalfe, 95 years young passed away April 10, 2019. Born July 18, 1923 in Greenwood, Utah to Richard Edward and Sarah Lucinda Wells Skinner. She married her eternal companion C. Walton Metcalfe September 9, 1949 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

She lived in American Fork and Fielding and she graduated from Bear River High School. She served a mission in the Northern States mission with her best friend and sister, Grace Skinner Campbell. She was a devoted wife, meticulous homemaker and mother. She was a very talented seamstress, doing custom draperies and clothing. She was an avid gardener, evidenced by her beautiful flowers, trees, vegetable garden and raspberry patch. She was still canning her tomatoes as of last year. She loved camping with good friends the Prices, Mitchells, Patricks, Austins and Campbells. She knew that Jesus is her Savior and that His Gospel is true. She served as Primary President, Young Women’s President, Relief Society President, and counselor in the Stake Relief Society. She also taught Primary, Relief Society and Sunday School Gospel Doctrine and early morning Seminary. She even played softball with the young women when she was president. She was strong willed and determined. She loved people and had many friends. She spent many winters in Quartzsite, Arizona and made many friends there also.

Survived by children Dave (Pat) Metcalfe, Roy Utah, Paul (Roberta) Metcalfe, Loon Lake Washington, Cindy (Thayne) Gooch, Cottonwood Heights Utah, Kristy (Randy) Nelson, Preston Idaho; 27 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Cathryn Skinner; and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents; husband; and 14 brothers and sisters, Aletha, Charles, Jim, Earl, Elva, Lamar, Louise, Sid, Madge, Carl, Naomi, Ernest, Grant & Grace.

Special thanks to friends Roma McBride, Bonnie Thomas, Diane Proctor, Charlie and Shanna Lewis, Mo, and several others in her neighborhood.

Viewing will be Tuesday, April 16, 6:00-8:00 pm at McDougal Funeral home, 4330 S Redwood Rd. Funeral will be held Wednesday, April 17, at 11:00 am at Poplar Grove Ward, 1401 West 700 South, Salt Lake City, with a viewing prior from 10:00 am-10:45 am. Interment in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
