Mary Louise Turnquist, our dear mom, grandma, aunt and friend went to be with the Lord, Friday, August 17, 2018 while visiting friends and family in Kanab, UT. She was a resident of Taylorsville, UT for 50 years. Born December 19, 1929 to Lawrence Bates Pino and Frances Helen Kobel in Denver, CO., Mary Lou, as she was known, was raised in Winslow, AZ. As a teen, she and her mother moved to Ogden, UT where she graduated from Ogden High School. She worked in various retail capacities from the time she was a teenager; her first job was a clerk in a small store in Ogden Canyon. She met her future husband and love of her life, Stanley Gordon Turnquist, when they both worked for The Bon Marche' department store in Ogden. They married July 20, 1950 in Elko, Nevada. Mary and Stan joined the LDS church while living in Denver, CO and later sealed their union in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were blessed with 2 wonderful children and were very involved in their lives. Mary had a passion for the water's edge. Some of her fondest memories were boating and teaching the kids to waterski. In recent years she enjoyed many trips exploring the canyons of Lake Powell. Mary spent much time with her grandparents while growing up and often said her earliest desire was to be a grandma. She was ecstatic each time she became a grandma and absolutely adored her grandchildren. Her love for family and friends was boundless. She always had a loving bond with her nephews and their families. She had a special gift of making people feel loved and important. For as long as anyone can remember she and her dearest friends met weekly to share loving laughs over lunch. She was blessed with many dear friends that she considered family. A devout member of the LDS church, Mary served in many callings, including Primary president, Relief Society president, and faithful Visiting Teacher. She served as a PTA president at the old Plymouth Elementary School. Also, Mary was a proud member of the United Food Workers Union and enjoyed a long career as a supermarket cashier before retiring from Safeway. She boasted quite often that regulars would stand in her line to get a little "personality" with their shopping experience. Mary is preceded in death by her parents and by her dear Stan after 57 years of marriage. She is survived by daughter Sheryl (Leo) Badoni and son Douglas (Cindy) Turnquist; grandchildren Lance Badoni, Christa (Eric) Norgrant, Landon Badoni, Logan (Meghan) Badoni, David Badoni, Rochelle Perry, Jasen (Jahnee) Perry, and Jerad (Jennifer) Perry; and 8 great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 10:00 am at the Taylors Grove LDS Ward Chapel, 4845 S. Woodhaven Dr. (1365 W. 4800 S.) in Taylorsville, UT. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service, beginning at 9:00 am. Interment will be at Memorial Redwood Cemetery, 6500 S. Redwood Rd., West Jordan, UT 84123. The family wishes to express our gratitude to McDougal Funeral Home for their services. We also wish to express sincere gratitude and appreciation to Cindy and Doug Turnquist, and the home care aides, for many years of loving care, enabling mom to live independently.
