Mathilde Emilie Tegtmeier, 90, treasured and beloved mother and grandmother died Oct 1, 2014, at The Lodge care facility in South Jordan, Utah. "Oma" was born Nov. 2, 1923, in Wendtagen, Germany, to Heinrich Wilhelm and Emilie (Klemine) Horstmeier. On Nov 7, 1947, she married her eternal companion, William Henry Tegtmeier, and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. She was so proud of her rich German heritage and loved when given the opportunity to share memories of growing up in the beautiful hills of her homeland, life through the "war years", the decision to emigrate to the U.S., the eight years in Milwaukee, Wis., and then raising her children in Granger, Utah. Throughout her life, Oma was always known for her delicious cooking, especially her German treats and rolls. She was a hard worker, teaching and training her children to take pride in a job well done. Joining the LDS church in Germany, she and her husband's faith guided and directed each decision they made in their lives. After losing her husband Dec. 7, 1984, she became the matriarch in sharing that faith with her growing family. She also shared her love and faith in Jesus Christ with anyone she was able to meet. Her family will always treasure her moments of "counsel" and sharing her love and testimony at family reunions. Oma was so pleased and proud of her children, Doris (Pherrel) Prusse, Helga (Kim) Leishman, Barbara Tegtmeier, Frank (Sherry) Tegtmeier, and Dennis (Maria) Tegtmeier; 40 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She is survived by her brother, Heinz (DeAnna) Horstmeier, and was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Otto and Fritz Horstmeier; and two great-grandchildren. Her children are so grateful for the loving care she was given by many family members, friends, and care givers. Oma was truly loved! Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, at the LDS Chapel, 3364 West 11400 South, in South Jordan. Viewings will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6, at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 S. Redwood Road, in Taylorsville, and from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday prior to services at the church.
