Melvin Wesley Cox

Born to Edward Cox and Polly Estella Belnap in Ogden, Utah in 1928. The youngest of 4 brothers and 2 sisters (all deceased). Grew up in several locations in the Salt Lake Valley, then Ucon Idaho, then San Diego and Bell, California. Then back to Ogden.

Dad graduated from Ogden High School then joined the U.S. Army and participated in the "Occupation of Japan" at the end of WWII. After being discharged, he attended Weber College and the University of Colorado, and then served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Toronto, Sault Ste. Marie, and Montreal, Canada.

After his mission, while attending Brigham Young University, he courted his sweetheart Bonnie Lee Hurst from Ogden and married her eternally on March 25,1953, in the Salt Lake Temple.

Dad received a B.S. degree in math and later an M.S. in statistics from Brigham Young University. He worked at Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory (New Mexico), Hill AFB, and Hercules. Dad Retired from Unisys Corp. He was involved in early usage of computers in scientific applications and adaptations to business operations. Dad also was a part-time math and computer science teacher at Weber College, BYU, and SLCC.

Dad Served as an LDS High Councilor, Bishop, and Region Agent in Taylorsville where he and his small family moved into a permanent home in 1961.

Dad enjoyed activities with his children and grandchildren, such as: camping, hunting, fishing, family reunions, sports, and music.

He, with his family made several temporary moves, the most memorable being the one to Minneapolis in 1969. They took a historic tour of the eastern U.S. on their way home.

During Dad's retirement years, he enjoyed serving as a Ward Missionary, singing in the ward choir, serving his loved ones, delving into family histories, and setting up a mobile home in Fremont, Utah (called Down South) on property originally owned by his wife's parents, Leo and Ione Hurst.

Melvin Wesley Cox was preceded in death by his loving wife Bonnie Lee, grandson Nathan Craig, and great-granddaughter Mallory Violet.

Dad is survived by his 5 children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and soon to be a great-great-grandchild.
