Melvin Holley

Salt Lake City Melvin Holley, 92, died Saturday, December 14, 2013 from congestive heart failure.He was born October 15, 1921 in Rexburg, ID to William I Holley Jr. and Lottie Verna Nichols. He joined the military after high school and served in WWII. Married Anita Maria Hidalgo, and through her, was blessed with three sons: Robert Melvin Holley, Ronald Allen Holley and Richard Brent Holley. They divorced and he later married Marilyn Hart, through whom he received another son, Stephen Glade Holley. They also divorced and several years later he met and married his eternal companion, Marilyn Clayton. They have been married for 43 years. They were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Angela Marie Holley Porter and Loralie Ailene Holley Larsen. Mel earned his degree in Engineering and Architecture and worked for various firms throughout the country, two of which were Kennecott Copper Corp and Tesco-Williamson. He loved fishing and gardening and enjoyed sharing his produce with all. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He led music in Sacrament Meeting until shortly before his death. He also enjoyed working at the Jordan River Temple for many years. He is loved by one and all and will be sorely missed by family, friends and neighbors.Funeral services will be held Friday, December 20, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at the Taylorsville Central Stake Center, 4950 South 1950 West. Viewings will be held Thursday, December 19, 2013, 6-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road and Friday at the church, 9:45-10:45 a.m. Interment, Larkin Sunset Gardens.
