Melvin Wilson

January 19, 1959 — July 18, 2023

Skip Wilson passed away on July 18, 2023. He was always a fighter and he stayed upbeat during his life long battle against MS. He was surrounded by family and friends.

Skip was born on January 19, 1959, in Fort Collins, Colorado. He graduated from Gilroy High School where he was the captain of his basketball team and senior class president.

Skip began his career as a public-school math teacher and, more importantly, basketball coach after graduating from BYU. He quickly discovered a passion for education, and this led him to an Educational Doctorate Degree in math education from University of Georgia. His professional philosophy mirrored his personal beliefs, and he spent his career challenging conventional educational norms. His focus was on investigating methods for putting functional outcomes ahead of educational traditions.

Skip spent his life traveling. He has lived in nine states, and he loved to say that he was "just getting started." He was a master at having children (seven) and delivering an inappropriately timed joke. He loved his children deeply and often shared their successes, struggles, or noteworthy stories with friends and family.

He is survived by his daughter, Diane, his six sons: Allen, Richard, Jonathan, Patrick, Aaron, and Owen; and his longtime partner Robin Fowler.

A memorial will be held on Sunday, July 23, 2023, from 2PM to 4PM at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 S Redwood Rd, Taylorsville, Utah.

We'd like to suggest that people make donations in his name to the National MS Society at the following link:   National MS Society - Donations
