Merlin Smith peacefully returned home to his Heavenly Father and into the arms of his loving wife on November 27, 2022.
Merlin was born December 27, 1931 to Severn Stanley Smith and Vera Labrum in Granger, Utah. He graduated from Cyprus High School in 1950 and went on to serve in the Korean War in 1951. Shortly after returning home with an honorable discharge, he worked at Kennecott Copper then married the love of his life, Margie Laprielle Shaw, on March 16, 1956. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised four children and two grandchildren. He worked hard and retired at Hercules in Magna, Utah. They moved to Saratoga Spring in 1998 and in 2003 he got a part-time job at the SSHOA swimming pool and worked as a pool monitor for 13 years. He loved this job and was loved by the community.
Merlin loved throwing horseshoes, fishing, watching all the Utah Jazz games. Mostly, he loved spending time with his family, friends and many cherished neighbors.
He served as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He is survived by his loving children Jed (Charlene) Smith, Todd Smith (Cynthia Vincent), Kathy Jonson Smith and Shawna (Brad) Ballinger. He is also survived by his brother Clyde Smith; his in-laws Nelson and Lois Petersen, Terry and Sheila Shaw; his 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Merlin was preceded in death by his wife Margie; his mother and father; his five siblings; daughter Neeley; grandson Ryan; granddaughter Amelia; and grandson Preston Bronx.
A special thank you to Riley and Breanna Bushnell for all the love and care they gave unconditionally. We are so grateful for all they did for their grandpa. He loved you dearly.
The Smith family would also like to thank everyone for all the support, love and prayers.
