Our son and brother Michael Wayne Stohel, passed away on January 4, 2019. He was born on May 23, 1955 in Salt Lake City, Utah to John Lee Stohel and Conna Durfee.
He is survived by his mother, Conna Durfee Brown and his brothers, John (Christine), Reed (Debbie), and Randall (Rayma). He is preceded in death by his father, John Lee Stohel and brother, Glenn (DeAnn).
Michael attended high school at the Ogden School for the Deaf and Blind from 1970 – 1974. Michael is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He attended various deaf branches and wards. The family is so grateful to Keith and Dixie Lauritzen for providing transportation to his meetings for many years. His home teachers and ministers came each month and Michael enjoyed these visits very much.
Michael worked for about 42 years for Deseret Industries and with Deseret Manufacturing. His last position at Deseret Manufacturing was making name tags for service missionaries. Michael loved working there and would be delighted when a member of the family came to volunteer for the day. On those days we wouldn’t get back to work until he had introduced us to all of his co-workers. He loved his job so much that he was happy to spend four hours every day riding buses and taking Trax to and from work.
Michael loved his movies, especially if it involved space travel or superheroes. He loved doing word search puzzles and would do them for hours. He especially enjoyed playing card games with family. He loved Uno and Dominoes the most. Michael couldn’t help but wear his emotions on his face. You knew immediately when he was ready to play the winning card or a final tile because he couldn’t hide his excitement.
Michael loved everyone, and everyone loved Michael. He will be truly missed.
