Miriam "Mim" Aldous Erickson Hansen
July 17, 1935 ~ Fegruary 21, 2025
Mim, 89, of Sandy, Utah passed away peacefully while surrounded by loved ones last Friday evening. She was born on a warm Wednesday on July 17, 1935, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Bessie Erickson. Her father, Hugo Erickson, sadly, passed 3 months prior to her birth. She had one older sister, Janice.
After graduating from East High School, she was set up on a blind date who would become her eternal sweetheart, Donald. Donald served in the Air Force and following his Honorable Discharge, the two married.
Mim often joked about being married 3 times but never divorced. The two of them eloped to Las Vegas on June 9, 1956. Following the elopement, they had a big wedding on July 20, 1956, in Salt Lake City, Utah. After relocating to California for a great job opportunity that Don was offered, they solemnized their marriage in the Los Angeles Temple on May 17, 1963. Together, they raised 3 children, Kristi (deceased), Reid (DeeAnn), and Eric. Mim and Don also chose to raise Kristi’s daughter, Lisa, who they raised as their own.
Once her family was raised, she decided to further her education and, at the age of 49, earned a master’s degree from Cal State Dominguez Hills in psychology.
Upon graduation, Mim ran a successful business where she counseled many people, some of which could not afford her services. Mim, being the type of person that she was, agreed to let one couple pay her in homemade tortillas as that is all they could offer. Another couple could not afford to pay but she wanted to help save their marriage. She agreed to help them anyway and told them that if someday they could afford to pay her, they could, while not expecting anything. Years later, a letter arrived thanking her for saving their marriage and a check was included for all the appointments.
Mim loved being around her family and friends. Together, Mim and Don made Redondo Beach and Torrance, California their home for 40 years. During this wonderful time, they joyfully entertained countless family members and friends in their home. Endless trips to the beach, Disneyland, Universal Studios, and much more were always on the agenda.
They decided to return to their roots in 1996 and moved back to Salt Lake where they turned another house into a home full of love, laughter, and endless gatherings.
To know Mim was to love her, and it was easy.
Mim and Don commemorated their 60th Anniversary in 2016 by renewing their vows in front of friends and family. Her sweetheart passed away in 2020. She continued to live her life the way she wanted and the family was able to fulfill her wishes of keeping her in her own home until she passed.
Mim is preceded in death by her husband Donald, her daughter Kristi, her sister Janice, best friend Charlotte, and her beloved dog, Biscuit.
She is survived by her sons: Reid (DeeAnn), and Eric; granddaughters: Lisa (Cliff), Kristen (Clark), Ashley (Mark), Katie (Troy), Kindsey (Travis), Jennifer (Frank), and Kymmy; great-grandchildren Kade, Easton, Kyler, Nash, Emily, Nixon, Ryker, Carter, Kamryn, Baylee, Logan, Blake, and Autumn; great-great-grandchildren Kolton, Shyanne, Stetson, and Dresden; and great-great-great- granddaughter, Savannah, as well as her good friends Heidi, Robbi, and Patti.
As a family, we would like to extend our utmost appreciation to Mim’s long-time home health nurse and friend, Mark; Cindy and Sonia (Visiting Angels), and Cassidy for their love, support, and the attention that they went above and beyond to provide to her as well as the Relief Society, who has provided much needed support and meals during this time.
