Muriel May Gardner Hayes, 83, of Draper, Utah, died peacefully in her home Monday, November 20, 2017, surrounded by her family. On December 19, 1933, in Delta, Utah, Muriel was born to Edward Eugene and Gene Lovell Gardner. She was adored as one of two girls in a family of eight children. After graduating from Delta High School, she attended Brigham Young University, after which she married the love of her life, Kenneth Alma Hayes in the Salt Lake City LDS temple on May 23, 1957. The two ofthem raised four beautiful children, as well as helping numerous foster children. Her loving influence continued as she taught countless students as a piano teacher. She served in several positions in the Suzuki Association of Utah, for which she traveled to many parts of the world. She had numerous musical callings within the LDS church, and shared her talents as an organist and pianist to the delight of anyone who was blessed to hear her play. However, one of her most important titles was Grandma she loved her grandchildren with all of her heart. Muriel is survived by her husband Kenneth Hayes; children: Kim (Nancy) Hayes, Kevin Hayes, Melanie (Shad) Eckman, Magen (Nathan) Emberton; grandchildren: Geoffrey, Ashley, Andrea, and Caitlin Nicole; and siblings: William (Enid) Gardner, Larry (Barbara) Gardner, and sister-in-law Lueen Gardner. She is preceded in death by her parents; siblings: Edward, John, Artemisia, David, and Ron; and grandchildren: Joshua and Kaitlyn. Funeral services will take place at the Butler West Stake Center at 1845 East 7200 South, on Monday, November 27, 2017, at 12:00 p.m., with a viewing for the family held one hour prior to the funeral. A public viewing will be held at the McDougal Funeral Home at 4330 South Redwood Road on Sunday, November 26, 2017, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Interment at the Utah Veteran's Memorial Park following the funeral service. The family would like to express a heartfelt, "Thank you," to OneCare Hospice, with special appreciation for her nurse, Angie. Muriel was a magnificent woman who will be sorely missed.
