Naida Gourley

August 2, 1929 — June 3, 2012

Naida Gourley 1929 ~ 2012 Naida Gourley was born August 2, 1929 in Stirling, Alberta, Canada to Lloyd and Jennie Oler. She passed away June 3, 2012, peacefully at home, with her family by her side. She is survived by her loving, eternal companion, Edward (Ted) Robert Gourley, to whom she was married for 60 loving years; her five children: Valerie, Debbie, Robin, Bob and Kelly; sister Juanita; and brother (Doug). Her posterity includes 21 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren. Naida grew up as a tom-boy, always helping her dad in building the house and fixing cars. She traveled the countryside shooting pheasant and duck and spending a great deal of time fishing. She shared the love of camping and fishing with her children. She also had many talents, not the least of which was playing the organ. She played the organ and piano in many different wards throughout her life, even staying after Primary to play for another ward who did not have a pianist. She showed her family her love of the gospel by making sure they were at church every week, including Primary and Mutual. When the family moved to California, she enjoyed taking them to the beach often during the summer and to the park where they learned to play softball as a family. She was always there for her children, thanks in part to her husband who was able to provide for the family so she did not have to work outside the home. She always kept busy with her callings and raising a family. In her later years, she and her husband served a Family History Mission for 15 months and spent many days traveling to visit family. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 9, 2012, 11:00 a.m. at the Taylorsville 12th Ward, 4505 South 3420 West where a viewing will be held10-10:45 a.m. prior to services.
