Naomi Ann Shaw Norwood

May 19, 1930 — June 2, 2014

Naomi's traveling spirit found its way home, Monday, June 2, 2014. On May 19, 1930, Naomi Shaw was born in Tetonia, Idaho. Growing up on her parents' farm, Naomi developed an incredible work ethic and learned the value of nature, animals, and tranquility of a rural life. Working as a student nurse, Naomi met her future husband, Perry, while he was convalescing from a truck accident. The were married in Elko, Nevada on July 30, 1949. Naomi and Perry moved to Granger, Utah, a few years later and purchased an acre of land land enough for their daughters to have horses, removed enough from the city to be surrounded by animals and open fields those things that signaled to Naomi a connection to the land big enough for the couple to establish small but successful rentals, and plenty of space for their grandchildren's imaginations to grow. The home of Perry and Naomi remains an heirloom that ties generations of family through space and memory. Early in life Naomi worked at Shopper's Discount and, true to her love of labor, worked at West Lake Junior High as the cafeteria manager for more than 25 years; she was employed until the age of 79. For a decade or more Naomi loved working at Synagogue during services or assisting in catering bar/bat mitzvahs. She felt a kinship with the Jewish community. A lover of history, when not working her job or on her properties, Naomi was busy traveling. Thanks to grandma, the grandchildren experienced camping, hiking, and other outdoor adventures. Later she would travel the globe, visiting nearly every continent except Antarctica. Thick with history and astonishing landscapes, Israel and Petra, Jordan were her favorite places. A dear gift to her children and grandchildren, Naomi gave an overseas trip to the country of their choosing to each one. Naomi demonstrated her love of family, history and gave something really special to each member of the family through travel. Puzzles, daily dips in her swimming pool, reading Westerns and crime novels, and custom made Halloween costumes are just some of the things Naomi will be remembered for. No doubt she will also be remembered for unfailing honesty, her critical awareness, an unparalleled work ethic, and stubborn independence. From the minuscule detail to the large dramatic events, we will remember and cherish the time we shared with Naomi our sister, our mother, our grandmother. Naomi joins her sisters, Mary, Roxana, and Ardis, and her husband, Perry Norwood. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Pauline Shaw; daughters, Gail Marie Mendenhall and Peggy Lee Holt; grandchildren, Michael Lance Allen, Tracy Marie Rees, and Becky Jo Corbett; grandsons-in-law, Adam Thomas Rees and Michael Corbett; and great-grandchildren, Maddy, Jaxon, and Marissa. Place of Birth:Tetonia, Idaho
