Nicklas Joseph Lucas

Nicklas Joseph Lucas 1919-2013 Nicklas Joseph Lucas passed away peacefully on June 5, 2013. He was born on October 1, 1919 in Montpelier, Idaho to Gustave Lucas and Catherine Bertha Wagner. He was the eldest of 7 children. He married Vivian Peterson on April 25, 1946 and they have been happily married for over 67 years. Nick was a veteran of World War II, enlisted in February 1941 and was discharged June 1945. He was a tank gunner in the 1st Armored Division and took part in the invasion of North Africa and Italy and received Purple Heart for injuries suffered in Italy in 1944. Nick worked at Kennecott Copper-Garfield Refinery for 30 years as a boilermaker/millright. He was a champion for dignity at work and a decent standard of living. Nick loved gardening, fishing, hiking, being in the outdoors and especially mom's great cooking. By example, he taught love for family, hard work, thrift, self-reliance and generosity. His family feels very privileged to have the benefit of his quiet strength, care and service for so many years. He is survived by his wife, one daughter Linda Stewart (Dennis), two sons, Jack (Debbie) and Fred; 15 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren; brother- Frank and sister -Pauline Petersen and many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held on Sat., June 15, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at the Utah Veterans Memorial Cemetery 17111 Redwood Rd., Bluffdale, UT. Family requests no flowers.
