Norma Estelle Kern Florence

Norma Estelle Kern Florence, age 86, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, returned to her loving Heavenly Father on Friday, October 27, 2017. Norma was born in Brooklyn, New York on July 15, 1931 to William Paul Karl Kern and Valeska Martha Kahlig Kern. She married Leo Glen Florence on October 13, 1950 in the Salt Lake Temple. Norma was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served faithfully in many callings including: Relief Society secretary; Young Women secretary; and, as an extraction worker. Norma loved drawing, painting, gardening, and spending time with her family. She was a great example of strength, love and kindness, and served her family and neighborhood with love and charity. She made everyone she came in contact with feel loved. Norma had a wonderful sense of humor and a strong testimony of Jesus Christ. She loved sharing stories from her childhood in Brooklyn, New York. Norma also shared memories of her life after her family's move to Salt Lake City, Utah, as a teen. Although she retained some of the Brooklyn accent, she was also proud of her German heritage. Norma is survived by her children: Ada (Craig - deceased) Jorgensen (Syracuse, Utah); Leo (Pat) Florence (Taylorsville, Utah); Norma (Ed) Lence (Sandy, Utah); and Naomi Ann Florence (Salt Lake City, Utah). She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren who she all adored. Norma is also survived by her brother David (Kevin) Kern (Winnemucca, Nevada). Norma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother (Harold Kern); her sisters (Eleanor Rasband and Ruth Reiter); her granddaughter (Kristy Jorgensen); and her great-grandson (Takeshi Jorgensen). Funeral services will be held Friday, November 3, 2017, 12:00 noon at the Winder Third Ward, 4551 South 1200 East, Salt Lake City, Utah, where a viewing will be held from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. prior to services.
