Orlene Daisy Stoddard, our loving "angel" mother and grandmother, died Friday, May 2, 2014, in Salt Lake City, Utah, at the age of 90, of natural causes. Orlene was born February 21, 1924, in Payson, Utah, to Albert Rickenbach and Bertha Schweizer Rickenbach. She was the youngest of seven children and the only one to be born outside of Bedford, Wyoming. When she was two years old, her family returned to Bedford. Her father died when she was only nine-years-old, so she helped run the family farm until she graduated from high school. She moved to Salt Lake City in 1944, where she got a job at the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad office. This is where she met her future husband. She married Douglas Lawrence Stoddard in the Salt Lake Temple on September 3, 1947. Over the next 11 years they were blessed with five children. In 1988, Orlene and Douglas were called to serve a mission to Sydney Australia as temple workers. After their mission, they served as temple workers in the Jordan River Temple for many years. Orlene was an avid gardener. Her favorites things to grow were raspberries and tomatoes. She spent her summers gardening and canning and loved to go skiing in the winter. She played the piano and the accordion and she had a passion for reading. She was always learning something new. She had a strong knowledge and testimony of the gospel and was an example to everyone who knew her. She was a wonderful mother, always happy and positive and a delight to be around. She is survived by her children; Susan Silcock, Connie and Steve Miller, Larry and Debbie Stoddard, Diane and Alan Rogers, and Chris and Wendy Stoddard; 22 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and siblings. Interment will be in Valley View Memorial Park. Place of Birth:Payson, UtahPlace of Death:Taylorsville, Utah
