Pamela Hashimoto

June 8, 1960 — October 10, 2023

June 8, 1960- October 10, 2023

Pamela Asa Hashimoto passed away on October 10, 2023.  Pamela was born June 8, 1960, in Ontario, Oregon to Tom (Susumu) and Dorothy Mukai. She was the oldest child and had a close relationship with her younger sister Tomi. She was a loving and much-loved daughter, sister, and aunt. Her compassion and generosity made an impact on the lives of everyone she encountered.

Pam was hardworking and an advocate for many students throughout her 40-year teaching career. She was a loving supporter for her many nieces, cousins, family, and friends, who have been a blessing to her life and whose lives she has blessed.

She leaves behind her sister Tomi Gayle Hashimoto Warren, her brother-in-law AJ Warren, her two nieces Alyssa and Marissa Warren, and many other family members and friends.

She is preceded in death by her father Tom (Susumu) Hashimoto and her mother Dorothy Mukai Hashimoto.

Pam graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Utah in 1982 and later graduated with a Masters in Teaching with a Reading Specialist credential. After graduating from the University of Utah, Pam began to pursue her passion for teaching. Her first position was teaching at Fox Hills Elementary. She later worked at John C. Fremont Elementary School.

In 1991 Pam moved to San Diego where she took a position working at Farb Middle School where from 1991 to 1997 she taught 6th grade Humanities Core, 7th Grade SDAI Teacher, 6th Grade Math and functioned as a Teaching Mentor and Governance Chairperson. Later in 1997 she accepted a position at Holmes Elementary School where she worked as a 5th Grade GATE Cluster Teacher. Then, from 1998 to 2003 she worked at Dana Middle School as a 6th Grade Language Arts and Reading Specialist teacher.

From 2003 to 2005 Pam worked as a Peer Coach at Silver Gate Elementary School working in conjunction with teachers and administrators to improve the reading and writing skills of students in  grades K-4. In 2005 to 2007 Pam worked at Bird Rock Elementary School as a 5th grade GATE Cluster Teacher, working in the Math, Science, and Social Studies curriculum. Her final teaching position was at Marston Middle School where she worked until 2022.

During her 40 years of teaching, Pam always went above and beyond the call of duty, often coming in early and staying late to provide extra tutoring and assistance. She was more than just a teacher to her students. Pam took time to understand how to cater to the needs of each student and get to know them on an individual basis, even providing food and meals to those in need, saying to her students if they were hungry she would be there for them and feed them.

Her students and peers knew she genuinely cared and would be a champion for their success in school and in life. Pam gained much respect and esteem from administration and her fellow peers.

Pam loved teaching and was blessed to meet faculty and teachers, at the schools where she taught, who became life-long friends and family. She enjoyed spending time with them and their families and was able to celebrate with them many wonderful events, weddings, and births.

Her greatest role in life was that of supporter and cheerleader. Pam attended many concerts, performances, and sporting games for her students, family, and friends. Ever the educator, she always encouraged each of the children in her family to develop a love for reading and learning and would always take them out on individual outings to select a new book, helping many discover a passion and love in the magic between the pages of a book.

She had a compassionate heart and gave much love, support, and much more to family, friends, students, neighbors, and strangers in need. Whether it was donating time, money, knitting a blanket or hat for a new baby, watching the kids, anything at all, she was willing to help. She touched the lives and hearts of all those she met.

We are blessed and enriched for having had her touch our lives. She will be dearly remembered and greatly missed.
